About Organization

The organization and administration of the Centre for Area Studies is divided amongst four official bodies – the scientific advisory committee, the spokesperson, the executive board, and the plenum – and is supported by the coordinators’ office. Together these bodies undertake general decisions for the overall management of the institution, agenda, and events as well as specific agreements concerning the funding, research programme, and participating institutions of CAS. Through cooperation with the representative bodies and spokespersons of projects profiting from particular third-party funding like the Research Training Group (GK 1261): “Critical Junctures of Globalization”, the Priority Programme (SPP 1448): “Adaptation and Creativity in Africa”, the research project “New Regionalisms in a Changing Global Order: Mapping Latin America and Africa”, and the university cooperation programme “Welcome to Africa”, the activities and goals relating to the development of the Centre are planned and executed.
